Many is the time in old Westerns that the black-hatted villain has decoupled the engine from the carriages and left the passengers stranded. If you were ever in this situation you should rush to the caboose and turn the big handle to engage the brakes. I don't know how long it would take to stop, but it always seemed to work for the white-hatted hero to save the day and win the girl!
