Description
Despite it's alarming appearance the ultra rare Striped Rhino Fish (Corniger piscis striata) is actually harmless and prefers a diet of vegetation and algae that it scrapes from the reef. Its unusual horn is not used for defense, as once thought, but actually for loosening chunks of dead reef to aid in feeding and also to attract a mate. The spines on its back can be raised extremely quickly when frightened and act as an effective deterrent to potential predators.
