Reflection on a Roadside - Richard Reeve
He had left Somalia 3 years ago. It had taken 18 months to get to the East Coast of America through an amazingly difficult and circuitous route across land and sea. As he stood in the rain he was thankful for the umbrella. Until he started on his journey he had never experienced such extremes of weather; the rain seemed incessant. He would spend hours standing at this junction with his sign each day. It was interesting to see the well-fed drivers and their families as they turned into the huge parking lots to visit the mall. "It must be an amazing place," he thought to himself. Although he had been collecting change here for over a year he had never been inside. The place frightened him. How ironic, coming from someone who had seen so much and lost so much that was precious to him over the last decade. Still, at least he would be able to eat tonight, and the hostel had a warm, dry place for him to bed down. Things could be a lot worse...

This is wonderful Richard. I love the concept and the limited bits of color. Fantastic work! L/F!

Thank you, Meg! I thought the image worked best as black and white with just a few highlights. It adds to the story, in my opinion.
