Description
Gunfleet Sands Offshore Wind Farm is a 173 MegaWatt wind farm 7km off the Clacton-on-Sea coast in the Northern Thames Estuary, commissioned on 15 June 2010. It has 48 Siemens Wind Power wind turbines of 3.6 MW capacity each. Construction began in March 2008 and the first two turbines started generating electricity in August 2009. As of January 2010, 45 turbines are in place with 20 supplying electricity to the grid. On average, the complete wind farm is expected to supply enough power for approximately 120,000 homes.

Great shot! I love how subtle the background is. L/F
Richard Reeve replied:
Thank you, Amy. I was disappointed at not being able to see the windmills more clearly, but this does have an eerie feel to it - sort of "new meets old", with the old hazard marker in the foreground.

Wonderful shot! Fantastic contrast! L/F!
Richard Reeve replied:
Thank you, Meg. this was a short trip back to the town of my childhood. The windmills were new and the sandstorm from the Sahara (true!) kept them in a foggy haze for the few days I was there.
