Description
Dragonfly - ready for take off
These biological helicopters fascinate me. They dart rapidly over water, skimming very low and fast, and changing direction quickly as they use their huge compound eyes to find prey or mates.
It's no wonder that more than a dozen aircraft, and even spacecraft, have been named after this beautifully agile creature, which has existed for since the Permian Period (250 million years ago) and whose ancestors include some of the largest insects that have ever lived.
