Originally inspired by the Willy Jeep, the Land Rover was made from 1948 and became famous throughout the world as the standard four wheel drive vehicle. Originally designed to be In production for only 2-3 years post-World War II, in remained in production though several redesigns (although fundamentally the same) for 67 years. The last "Defender" model was made in January 2016, time finally having caught up with the "Landy!"
It is reported that over two-thirds are still running and that this was the first motor vehicle seen by more than half the world's population.
440,000 of the Land Rover Series III were built between 1971 to 1985. It was used extensively throughout the world in commercial, military and NGO activities.
It was truly a workhorse!
