Description
A truly beautiful plant, that pops up in the garden after the daffodils and makes a wonderful colorful addition to the yellow/whites of the narcissi.
Although associated with The Netherlands (Holland) tulips actually originate in Turkey and the Middle East. The first western European mention of the word tulip was said to have been derived from the "Turkish Letters" of Ogier Ghiselin de Busbecq in 1554.
It is odd to think that the desire for these beautiful flowers led to the infamous Tulip Mania in 1637, with some sought after bulbs selling for ten times the annual salary of a skilled craftsman.
I am just happy to have a wide variety of cultivars in my garden...

Richard Reeve replied:
Thank you, Meg. Unusual colors for a Spring image, but it worked well with leaf litter background.
